healing ground

  • Canadian astrophysicist and former politician Avi (formerly Amita) Kuttner shares their deeply personal journey of healing and self-discovery. They reflect on the profound loss of their mother in a devastating mudslide at age fourteen, their father’s brain injuries, and the complex trauma that followed

The film explores Avi’s path toward recovery, their move to the Isle of Bute in Scotland, and the role of physical and emotional routines, mindfulness, and self-compassion in processing trauma. As they confront repressed emotions, Avi also reflects on their gender identity and dysphoria, which became more apparent through their healing process

Finding solace in the natural world, Avi speaks to the transformative power of facing life’s truths and embracing its beauty with openness and acceptance

One of a three part series shot across Scotland

    The Colour Grade

For this film, the colour grade was an integral part of shaping the emotional arc. During moments of difficulty, we embraced a more muted, restrained palette- subdued tones reflecting the weight of Avi’s journey. As the story unfolds and their connection with the natural world deepens, the grade evolves, becoming richer and more full-bodied, carrying greater depth and warmth to mirror the sense of healing and renewal

From the outset, we developed a custom Show LUT to be used on set, guiding both creative and technical decisions. This approach allowed us to establish the film’s visual language early on, ensuring that the studio sessions were dedicated to refining each shot within a look we already loved
